Why Sing?
Why choose to support homelessness through song? It’s simple; music has many restorative properties to support people from all walks of life. The benefits can be broken down in three major ways…
1. Physical: Singing requires you to control your breathing, which in turns regulates your heart rate, relaxes your body, and brings your system into homeostasis—giving you an overall sense of wellbeing. While singing, you will also have to focus on posture, release muscle tensions, and forge a connection between your mind and body, so the benefits will be felt throughout your being.
2. Psychological: When singing, you need to focus on the song and your breath, which helps you learn control and concentration. Singing also provides an emotional release that improves your mood, invites exploration and self-expression, and helps build self-esteem.
3. Social: Coming together as a group to sing helps people bond and encourages and supports positive social interactions. Ultimately, it helps combat disintegration of communities and improves broad social connections.
