View InventoryWhy Buy the 2018 Buick Encore
Although only introduced by Buick in 2013, the Encore belies its status as a newcomer. In just five years, it has impressed many as a subcompact luxury crossover SUV: thanks to its lively handling, upscale interior, and loads of standard features. For the 2018 model year, the vehicle is virtually unchanged. It is available as a base-level, Preferred, Sport Touring, Preferred II, Essence, and Premium model.
Exterior – Reasons Why Buy the Buick Encore
Exterior-wise, the subcompact crossover starts off with features such as halogen headlights, roof-mounted rack rails for luggage carrying, heated power-adjustable side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, and 18-inch alloy wheels. On the Sport Touring or up, fog lamps are added for more penetrating illumination during foggy or hard-to-see conditions. Going up to the Essence replaces the halogen bulbs on the headlights with brighter and longer-lasting LEDs. Notably, true to its racing-style design, the Sport Touring is the only trim with a rear spoiler and 18-inch silver-finished aluminum wheels.
Interior – 2018 Buick Encore – Request information interior
Designed as a five-seater, this SUV provides 18.8 cubic feet of cargo volume between the rear seats and the liftgate. The seats are foldable, thus providing a maximum cargo volume of 48.4 cubic feet. Front seating comprises a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a 2-way manually adjustable passenger seat, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel facing both of them. For a super-quiet cabin, the vehicle has installed microphones, which comprise the manufacturer’s Active Noise Cancellation technology; and Quiettuning™, which concerns the presence of triple door seals and an acoustic-laminated windshield and front side glass, among other installations and tweaks.
On the Essence and Premier, the vehicle is upgraded with front-seat heating capability, 6-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, and a driver-side 2-position memory system. For comfort and convenience, the SUV starts off with features like cruise control, remote keyless access, a 4.2-inch multi-color driver information center, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access, a three-month complimentary SiriusXM® satellite radio subscription, a USB port and auxiliary audio jack for hooking up mobile devices, Apple CarPlayâ„¢ and Android Autoâ„¢ for smartphone-based control, and an 8-inch high-resolution color touchscreen. Upgrading to the Sport Touring or up adds remote vehicle start. Added on the Preferred II are additional dual-zone automatic climate control and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. And exclusive to the Premium are HD Radioâ„¢, an air ionizer, and a 7-speaker Bose® premium audio system.
Mechanical / Powertrain – Request More Information
Powering the 2018 SUV is a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, which generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Although front-wheel drive is standard, you can opt for an all-wheel-drive system for better handling of slippery road situations—that is, if you go with a trim above the base-level one. However, front-wheel drive provides the best fuel economy on the SUV, which is measured at 25/33 mpg as opposed to 23/30 mpg. Present is a MacPherson strut coil spring front and torsion beam rear suspension for absorbing bumps, potholes, and other road imperfections to provide a smooth driving experience. And there’s a speed-sensitive electricity-powered steering system for precise turning.
Safety – Why Buy with Safety Features
For cushioning and restraint in the event of a collision, the 2018 Encore has dual front impact airbags, dual front knee airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and roof rail-mounted head curtain airbags. There’s also a five-year trial subscription to the OnStar® Basic Plan, which provides functions like dealer maintenance notification and advanced diagnostics; and a three-month trial subscription to the OnStar® Guidance Plan, which consists of functions that include automatic collision notification, turn-by-turn navigation, and roadside and stolen vehicle assistance. Other standard safety features on the crossover include a rear vision camera to make you aware of what and who is behind you when driving in reverse, StabiliTrak® for electronic vehicle stability control, LED daytime running lamps for increased conspicuity when on the road, four-wheel disc brakes for quick and effective response when you press the brake pedal, anti-lock braking for preventing wheel lock-up when the brake pedal is suddenly pressed, and a theft-deterrent system to prevent unwarranted access and use of the vehicle. The Preferred II, Essence, and Premium trims have the addition of the following advanced safety features: rear cross traffic alert and side blind zone alert. Exclusive to the Premium are forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and front and rear park assist.
