Spring Fling

Des Moines is also a great place for history and art - there are plenty of museums and galleries showing a diverse selection of exhibits. This spring, the State Historical Museum will feature the oil paintings of an Iowan native, while West Des Moines City Schools will show an Art on the Campus exhibit through the season. Visit the Pappajohn Sculpture Park or take a walking or biking art tour. You can also visit a Living History Farm, see a science exhibit, or head to the unique US Ballooning Hall of Fame.

Winter weather is finally here. And while that might mean chillier temperatures outside, that doesn't mean there aren't a ton of fun activities to take part in. Fortunately, Des Moines is home to some great places to spend a cold wintry day at. Be sure to check them out this winter.

This shopping center is composed of a large group of independent stores that each offer an assortment of specialized gifts, perfect for even the hardest family members to shop for. Speaking of shopping, you can also stop into the Jordan Creek Town Center. There are more than just shops here, however. You can also catch a holiday movie at the local theater.

Winter also means that the Brenton Skating Plaza will be open and operational. Try to master your skating skills on the ice, or just skate around with some friends. The Skating Plaza is a huge hit with kids. If you want to take your little ones somewhere a little warmer, you can stop in to the Science Center of Iowa. Kids will love how entertaining the museum is, and you will love how much they are learning about science during winter break.
Of course, for adults there is also the Prairie Meadows Casino, which offers its own assortment of reindeer games. Test your luck at the slot machines or a variety of card games.
You don't have to stay cooped inside the house this winter. Not when Des Moines has so many places to visit!
