View InventoryMODEL OVERVIEW
The 2019 GMC Sierra promises some excitement. Sure it looks different from the 2018 Sierra, but the real surprises lie in its technology and its tailgate. Let's compare models and find out how the new Sierra builds upon the success of the 2018 GMC Sierra.
2019 GMC Sierra's EXTERIOR changes
Whereas the 2018 Sierra looks more like its corporate cousin, the Chevy Silverado, the 2019 Sierra has a more distinct identity. The new look encompasses a bolder look and bigger proportions. It's taller and the cab is larger. LED headlamps are part of the truck's signature C-shaped lighting. The Denali continues to rule the pack with its new, unique grille and its integrated dual exhaust.
Vertical chrome recovery hooks make their debut on the Denali, but these are offered on other trims as well. Available 22-inch multidimensional ultrabright alloy wheels can finish off the Denali's special look. The big news for the 2019 model is definitely the MultiPro Tailgate. For starters, there are three ways to open it. You can use your key fob, a button on the gate, or a button in the cab. For easy access, you can fold the gate straight down. If you need to climb in, you've still got the Cornersteps that made the 2018 Sierra so useful. However, the 2019 models will replace the Sierra's power step with something even more useful. The MultiPro gate adds a new step that is almost the length of the tailgate. This full-width step can handle up to 375 pounds. With the primary gate open and extended, you can flip up the load stop. This turns the tailgate into a useful bed extender. There's also an inner gate. This acts as another load stop, protecting second-tier items that might slide. If you fold the gate in half, it provides a way to do second-tier loading. Also, it can be a seat or a work surface. With so many uses, it's no wonder they call this the MultiPro tailgate.
2019 GMC Sierra's INTERIOR changes
The Sierra is known for its exceptionally quiet cabins. These rides not only look premium on the inside, they act it when they are in motion. GMC manages to give passengers a smoother, quieter ride quality than many expect in a truck. Like the 2018, the 2019 continues this tradition and builds upon it. You can expect the new cabins to match or surpass the current trucks in terms of technology and material quality. 2018 Sierras offer a variety of leathers in jet black, dark ash, or unique cocoa and dune combinations. For 2019, Denali editions have been crafted to perfection with fine materials such as brushed aluminum trim and open pore ash wood.
Exclusive premium Forge leather covers the Denali's comfortable seats. The GMC entertainment center includes an updated eight-inch touchscreen with navigation. Still leading its segment, the Sierra will offer the available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot on every edition. In another smart move, Sierra will continue to have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as tech standards. Ranging from a heated steering wheel to power-adjusting pedals, there are plenty of comforts on the 2018 and 2019 menu. You can see for yourself at Watters Autoland in Indianola Iowa.
2019 GMC Sierra's MECHANICAL changes
Ready to work, the 2018 GMC Sierra offers powerful engines with strong bodies to deliver the goods without flinching. Paired with six-speed automatic transmissions, engines include a high-torque 355-horsepower V8 and a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8. This EcoTec3 engine is known for having the most V8 horsepower in its class of half-ton pickups. The top tow rating is 9,300 pounds or 12,500 pounds, depending on the bed-and-cab configuration. The new Sierra is expected to match or exceed these ratings. It will have new powertrain choices with more advanced standard transmissions. A powerful 5.3-liter V8 will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A new 6.2-liter V8 will generate maximum torque and regulate it with a new ten-speed automatic transmission. For better, safer tows, GMC now offers a ProGrade system that gives you better visibility when pulling a load.
2019 GMC Sierra's SAFETY changes
he 2019 GMC Sierra will offer serious crash avoidance systems. This includes warnings, active camera systems, and semi-automated features. The side blind zone alert uses an icon to keep drivers informed about side traffic. Should the truck try to turn toward another vehicle, the lane change alert may sound to warn the driver. A rear cross-traffic alert will help the driver on busy worksites and in parking lots. The lane keeper has an assist function to gently pull the truck straight in its lane. Also helpful for worksites and other crowded places, an autobrake may be activated if a pedestrian steps into the truck's path. To keep the driver aware of speed and other relevant conditions, a Head Up display is now offered. This puts the information within the driver's line of sight by placing it on the windshield. No other truck but the 2019 Sierra will offer a Rear Camera Mirror. This system can be activated by the driver. An image appears in the rearview mirror that is an extra-wide live feed from behind the truck. This eliminates all possible obstacles, giving the driver a clear view of what's behind the Sierra. With so many safety tools in the 2019 Sierra driver's toolbox, daily chores can be safer than ever.
