The 2017 GMC Acadia represented a complete overhaul for the popular three-row crossover. This year's edition promises to do even more. You'll find more features on your favorite trim levels. As we compare models, you will learn more about what the 2018 edition can do for you and your big family in Indianola Iowa.
2018 GMC Acadia's EXTERIOR changes
Staking a claim to the road, the 2017 GMC Acadia lineup has a distinctive exterior. Curb appeal continues in the 2018 edition. It stands high and wide, but it manages to hide its truck-like dimensions behind a more streamlined look. IntelilBeam headlights regulate the beam, raising or lower it. The system even recognizes the preceding vehicle's tail lamps and dims to spare the driver. The side mirrors offer power-heat function to wipe away snow, ice or frost. These can be power-adjusted, and on some models, they are auto-dimming as well. Denalis come with HID headlamps for sharper light every night. SUV shoppers can choose from black, silver or bright roof rails. Other choices include 17-inch, 18-inch or 20-inch wheels that can be machined, painted or bright aluminum with light or dark accents. Active Grille Shutters reduce wind resistance or provide air for engine cooling.
2018 GMC Acadia's INTERIOR changes
For starters, the GMC Acadia is a serious people and/or cargo hauler. Like the 2017, the 2018 GMC Acadia has a standard seven-person layout. Legroom is generous at nearly 40 inches on the second row and almost 32 inches on the third row. Of course, you can exchange the center bench for comfy captain's chairs. The All Terrain model lets you drop the third row and claim an enormous hold with a cargo management system. Regardless of the edition you choose, when the seats are down, there's enough space to haul furniture. Volume measures 79 cubic feet. Families can tuck away items in the two compartments hidden beneath the flat-load floor. Of course, the Acadia's allure doesn't rest solely with its utility. The cabin is premium, even at the base level.
Features are packed aboard to please the discriminating buyer. As U.S. News and World Report has noted, few midsize base editions can compete with the Acadia's basic features list. The touchscreen comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which aren't available at all on the Toyota Highlander. Large icons are easy to see, and the responsive screen reacts to your input. Duplicate controls make it even easier to regulate your audio and climate settings. A Wi-Fi hotspot is standard along with satellite radio and five USB ports. The kids can use Wi-Fi on their smart devices, although they may prefer the available Acadia entertainment system. They certainly won't lack for things to do. If you step up to the larger screen, the IntelliLink system with navigation makes it easy to find your destination. SLE editions add such goodies as heated front seats for our Iowa winters. SLT models spoil passengers with leather seating, second-row heated seats, and an advanced Bose audio system. The Denali has added an automatic heated steering wheel, which can make the family driver much happier on a cold morning in Indianola Iowa.
2018 GMC Acadia's MECHANICAL changes
The 2017 Acadia's new engines carry over to the 2018 model at Watters Autloand. This means that every driver can take advantage of a fuel-saving stop-start engine control system. It reduces waste at redlights. A 193-horsepower engine produces 188 lb.-ft. of torque. This fast mover balances performance with fuel economy, helping with the family budget. Family drivers may be more concerned about the fun of driving. For them, there's a slick V6. It spits out 310 horsepower for serious competitiveness in highway traffic. Controlled by a six-speed automatic, the torque rate is 271 lb-ft. The top tow rating is 4,000 pounds. Ground clearance starts at 7.2 inches. All-wheel drive adds a bigger rear axle and makes sure that this SUV can get where it's going regardless of road conditions.
2018 GMC Acadia's SAFETY changes
The Acadia takes family safety seriously. In addition to its extensive traction controls and protective airbags, it also offers the OnStar automatic collision notification system. You can get a forward collision alert and a lane departure warning with the GM-exclusive safety alert driver's seat. Before changing lanes, the driver can check the available blind spot monitor to see if traffic is coming. Likewise, the rear cross-traffic alert performs a similar function when the SUV is in reverse. A lane keep assist adds some automation by gently pulling at the steering to get the driver to get straight within the lane lines. The lane change alert adds a more active response to the blind spot monitor. Reacting to the forward collision warning or pedestrian watch, a low-speed auto brake can be upgraded to a full-speed autobrake on some models. A distance following indicator keeps the busy driver more alert to conditions. Parking is easier with the rearview camera and a snap with the Denali's available surround view camera. This system shows you every side of the vehicle, keeping you informed about whatever may be too close for comfort.
