- 1908 – GM is founded, and soon after, both the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and the Reliance Motor Company are purchased by GM and combined.
- 1912 – The first vehicle with the title of “GMC Truck” is showcased at the New York International Auto Show, a combination of the merged companies’ names.
- 1916 – GMC captures the public’s attention when a GMC truck crosses the country in just 30 days.
- 1923 – The first GMC heavy duty trucks are released, with the ability to haul between five and 10 tons.
- 1933 – GMC creates and builds six-cylinder valve-in-head engines for many of its models.
- 1941 – More than 500,000 trucks are produced by GMC for use during World War II.
- 1949 – A varied GMC lineup includes 75 models.
- 1956 – All GMC trucks come with tubeless tires as a standard.
- 1968 – GMC is one of the world’s leading truck sellers, ranking in third place internationally.
- 1982 – The first compact GMC truck is introduced with the S-15 pickup.
- 1996 – GMC drops “Truck” from its name, taking the mainstream vehicle market by storm.
- 2001 – Heavy-duty versions of many GMC models at the time are created.
- Today – GMC continues to top its previous models every year with exciting new releases and upgrades that best the competition.
