How Often Should You Rotate Tires
For regular servicing, the rule is to rotate your tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. At Huffines Chevrolet, we suggest rotating them every other oil change. Our Express Service can do both in minutes and have you back on the road in no time.
Is Balancing My Tires Necessary?
Balancing your tires is done by attaching small weights to the side of your wheels. These weights minimize wheel vibration during rotation. Tires wear unevenly and fast without proper balancing. Plus, it's a very inexpensive way to protect your tires, which can run in the hundreds of dollars per tire. Balancing should be done every time you put a new tire on a wheel or when your old tire is taken off for repairs and put back on.
What About an Alignment?
Most mechanics agree that an alignment isn't necessary during a tire rotation and recommend this be done only once every two or three years. Check your owner's manual for exact recommendations. Premature or uneven wear might mean you need one though.
The cost for an alignment varies slightly with every vehicle, but it's a fraction of the cost to replace your tires if they wear out.
