It’s a Great Time to Get an Electric Car in New York StatE!

Not only are electric cars cleaner, but they offer a cutting-edge driving experience, save money on fuel, and need less maintenance than gas or diesel cars. The Charge NY initiative offers electric car buyers the Drive Clean Rebate of up to $2,000 for new car purchases or leases. Combine that with an Inflation Reduction Act tax credit of up to $7,500, and it’s an opportunity you wouldn’t want to miss.

    WHAT IS THE DRIVE CLEAN REBATE?

    The Charge NY Drive Clean Rebate (Drive Clean Rebate), offered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), is a point-of-sale rebate that reduces the cost of purchasing or leasing an eligible electric vehicle for New York State residents, businesses and government entities.

    Dealers reduce the vehicle price by the rebate amount at the point of sale, passing the full savings to the customer, and then apply for the rebate on behalf of the customer. The Drive Clean Rebate gives dealers the opportunity to talk to customers about considerable savings on their purchase or lease of an electric vehicle.

      WHICH VEHICLES ARE ELIGIBLE AND HOW MUCH IS THE REBATE?

      Eligible electric vehicles must have four wheels, be high-way capable, be new at the time of lease or purchase, and be purchased or leased on or after the program effective date.

      Rebate amounts are based on the electric range of the car, as determined by United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards for electric vehicle mile range.

      To ensure the program is inclusive for all New Yorkers, the program does provide a flat rebate of $500 for all plug-in electric cars with a MSRP over $42,000.

        WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DRIVE CLEAN REBATE?

        • Customer must be a resident of New York State (if an individual), be a New York State government entity or municipality, or be registered/licensed to do business in New York State and must affirm that they intend to domicile the vehicle in New York State.
        • Customer must own and register the vehicle in New York for a minimum of 36 months.If leasing, the original lease term must be at least 36 months. See the Implementation Manual for full details.
