How Does the GMC Sierra Compare to its Bristol, CT Competition?
When you're shopping for a pickup, you're probably looking for a dependable truck that can get the job done day in and day out. We know that whether you're from Farmington CT or Waterbury CT, there are a multitude of options available for you to choose from -- so many, in fact, that it can be a bit overwhelming. That's why we decided to take a look at how the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 compares to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. In a nod to our locale climate here in the greater Hartford area, we went ahead and compared all-wheel drive, regular cab configurations of each truck to keep things fair.

Price Comparison of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 vs. the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The Sierra 1500 comes out of the gate at a lower Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price than the Silverado 1500, which certainly makes it the better choice for your budget. Since the trucks we compared are estimated to deliver the same fuel economy of 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, there's really little the Silverado can do during your ownership to make up that for the fact that it costs nearly $1,500 more.
Performance Comparison of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 vs. the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Hard to believe, but this category is nearly a dead-heat tie between the two trucks. Both come standard with a 4.3-liter V6 engine that manufactures 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. Both also offer an available 5.3-liter V8 that makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, or you can opt for the top-end 6.2-liter V8 that generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, which should be more than enough for our customers from West Hartford and New Britain to tackle any tasks at hand.
Both trucks can also tow up to 12,500 pounds or haul up to a 2,250-pound payload, with special tech features such as trailer brake controller and a tow/haul mode that ease the strain on the transmission and engine.
Interior Features Comparison of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 vs. the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 feels like the more upscale truck when you get inside, with a comfortable cabin, and spacious, comfortable seating. The Silverado seems like a more value-oriented truck by comparison, with less plush materials used throughout.
As you might expect, the higher the trim level you choose the nicer each truck's interior gets. The Sierra can go all the way up to the Denali trim, which makes it a true luxury pickup with appointments such as heated leather seats, wireless device charging, navigation, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility and a Bose® premium stereo system. The Silverado tops out at the High Country trim level, which has some luxurious touches but can't meet the luxury offered by the Denali.
Reliability Comparison of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 vs. the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
While J.D. Power hasn't yet issued reliability data for the 2018 models, these trucks are largely the same as their 2017 iterations. When comparing J.D. Power Predicted Reliability Scores for the 2017 models, the Sierra 1500 earned an above-average rating of four out of five, while the Silverado 1500 placed slightly behind with a 3.5 out of five.
