Seasonal Tire Changes
While many locales have lots of tire and wheel shops, many are using workers who are not certified or properly trained to mount and balance tires and wheels. Our certified technicians at Lawrence Chevrolet can perform seasonal tire changes to ensure your vehicle is in its best shape for four full seasons of driving.
Late fall is a great time to switch to snow tires if you live at higher elevations and in locales that are more prone to lake-effect snow and other annual snowstorms. Snow tires are taller, narrower, and have a more aggressive tread for getting through deep snow and slush than all-season radials.
When the spring thaw arrives, you can switch to all-season radials. All-season radials have a wider footprint than snow tires and channel water away from the contact patch to help ensure the best traction and handling during summertime drives. A quick-mount and balance of tires for winter travels and again for the summer is a great way to keep your tires and wheels in top shape.
Tire and Wheel Rotation
Virtually all auto manufacturers, as well as tire makers, highly recommend rotating the tires about every 5,000 miles. The front wheels and tires generally take more abuse than those on the rear due to changing steering inputs and other factors. You can even out the wear and tear on the tires by rotating them from the front to back and from one side to the other when recommended by the manufacturer.
While rotating the tires, our technicians will give each wheel a high-speed balance and full inspection to make sure you have good tires and wheels. The balance helps to make the wheels roll more smoothly and give you a much better ride while also improving traction and handling. Rotating and balancing the tires and wheels is much easier to do when you make seasonal tire changes to match the driving weather.
Tire and Wheel Repairs
Just about everyone winds up with at least one flat tire and likely several during several years of driving. Road hazards can damage tires and wheels, and foreign objects can embed themselves into your tires and cause them to leak. Whenever you have a flat or have a wheel or tire that makes thumping sounds or other disturbing noises, you need to get all four inspected.
Potholes, curbs, nails, and other objects all can cause significant damage to tires and wheels. Whether you have a tire that leaks air, tread separation, or other problem, the tire and wheel are less safe and potentially dangerous. A quick inspection can identify the problem and provide you with a fast and affordable solution. Anything from a quick plug to a full tire replacement can ensure your wheels and tires are in their best condition for more travel.
Two- and Four-Wheel Alignments
If you have a vehicle that consistently pulls to one side of the road, odds are you have an alignment problem. An alignment problem often arises when the suspension has worn-out components, like a tie rod end, bad ball joint, or other commonly worn parts. Our technicians can use our modern service facilities to check the alignment, identify any worn parts and perform any repairs that might be needed.
Once any worn parts are replaced, our technicians can perform either a two- or four-wheel alignment to restore your vehicle’s proper alignment so that it will drive straight and true again. Most vehicles with front-wheel drive only need a two-wheel alignment. A vehicle with AWD or a 4X4 would need a four-wheel alignment, and a rear-wheel drive might need a two- or a four-wheel alignment.
