Wreaths Across America
This organization is dedicating to remembering all of our fallen heroes. Its goal is to place wreaths at over 1,200 cemeteries across the country, including Arlington National Cemetery. Each year, volunteers lay roughly 250,000 wreaths. To help out with this noble cause, Chevrolet recently donated 4,000 wreaths and provided 12 vehicles for a Veterans Parade that went from Maine to Arlington, Virginia.
Hiring Our Heroes
Unfortunately, many veterans find it difficult returning to civilian life and find a job after leaving the military. GM wants to help alleviate this problem, which is why it is a leading corporate partner for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes Program. Since 2012, Hiring Our Heroes has helped find jobs for more than 500,000 veterans, including jobs at GM. In addition, GM has helped to organize hundreds of job fairs here in the U.S. as well as at U.S. bases overseas.
Achilles Freedom Team
Many veterans return from the battlefield with life-changing injuries. However, this doesn’t stop many from continuing to live a fulfilling and adventurous life. The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans is a group of athletes who compete in marathons by riding on handcycles. Chevrolet engineers worked with students from Michigan Technological University to help develop a better handcycle for the team.
