Vehicle Overview
The 2018 model year marks two decades since the Sierra 1500 made its debut as the 3/4-ton light-duty pickup truck of General Motors' GMC marquee. On the verge of closing out its third generation of production, GMC makes the rearview camera and 7-inch color touchscreen standard on the Sierra 1500. Otherwise, it remains the same as the previous iteration. The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in base-level, SLE, SLT, and Denali trims.

2018 GMC Sierra 1500's Exterior
Standard exterior features on the new Sierra 1500 include the CornerStep rear bumper for making it easier to get into and out of the pickup bed, chrome front and rear bumpers and grille surround, and manually adjustable side mirrors. Sprucing up the truck at the SLE level are deep-tinted rear glass, LED cargo box lighting, heating ability and power adjustability on the side mirrors, and EZ-Lift and Lower and remote locking technologies on the tailgate for more convenient operation. The SLT comes with LED taillamps (instead of halogen ones), fog lights, power-folding ability added on the side mirrors, and trailering equipment. The Denali is the only trim with 6-foot chrome assist steps below the doors to help provide secure footing. Also unique to the Denali are body-color front and rear bumpers and side moldings and IntelliBeam technology for automatically dimming the headlights in high beam mode when oncoming traffic is detected. The base-level trim rides on 17-inch steel wheels, and it's the model without rear wheelhouse liners. The SLE has 17-inch aluminum wheels, the SLT goes with 18-inch ones, and the Denali rolls with 20s.

2018 GMC Sierra 1500's Interior
The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in three body styles: the two-door Regular Cab, which seats up to three people; and the four-door Double Cab and slightly larger Crew Cab, which can accommodate up to six. Also available are three bed sizes: Short Box, Standard Box, and Long Box. They offer cargo spaces of 53.4 cubic feet, 61 cubic feet, and 76.3 cubic feet, respectively. Standard comfort and convenience features include vinyl seat covering, cruise control, the aforementioned 7-inch touchscreen, a 3.5-inch monochromatic driver information center, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth® wireless technology for streaming audio and hands-free phone operation, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for smartphone-based control, voice-activated technology, a USB port and audio jack for connecting mobile devices.

At the SLE trim level, the Sierra is enhanced with features such as remote keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, OnStar® 4G LTE communications compatibility and Wi-Fi hotspot availability, three trial months of SiriusXM® satellite radio, HD Radio™, a single-slot CD/MP3 player, and an 8-inch color touchscreen (in place of the 7-inch) integrated with a 4.2-inch color multi-information center (in place of the 3.5-inch) and accompanied by gesture recognition for executing functions. The SLT gets dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals, power outlets, remote start, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column (instead of a manual one), and driver and front-passenger heated seats. Exclusive to the Denali are heating ability on the steering wheel, leather-trimmed front seats with heating and ventilating capabilities, a universal home remote, wireless charging ability, a seven-speaker Bose® audio system, and a GPS navigation system that maps in 2D and 3D.

2018 GMC Sierra 1500's Mechanical
The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is fitted with an independent short-and-long-arm front and rigid axle rear leaf suspension to maintain ride smoothness regardless of road condition. Speed-sensing electric power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering ensure that turning and cornering are sharp and precise.
2018 GMC Sierra 1500's Powertrain
The base-level and SLE trims are powered by the LV3, a 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. The higher-level SLT and Denali trims go with the L8B, a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 that generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The Denali is the only trim with its engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission; the others go with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Drivetrain choices comprise a rear-wheel-drive system and a four-wheel drivetrain that is accompanied by an automatic locking rear differential and the Autotrac® 2-speed active transfer case for added traction ability when necessary.
2018 GMC Sierra 1500's Safety
The new Sierra 1500 counts the previously mentioned rearview camera, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, StabilTrak® for electronic stability control and anti-roll mitigation, traction control, and daytime running lights among its standard safety features. Only the Denali has hill descent control and a theft-deterrent system.
