Two engines, incredible capability
When you purchase a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD or 3500HD, you can choose between two engines: the standard 6.6-liter V8 or the optional turbodiesel 6.6-liter Duramax® V8. The former is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque while the latter puts out 470 horsepower and a stunning 975 lb-ft of torque. These are seriously powerful engines, both paired to heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmissions, capable of handling major towing jobs without breaking a sweat.
When properly equipped, the Sierra 2500HD can tow up to 22,500 pounds. The Sierra 3500HD’s maximum tow rating goes up to a whopping 36,000 pounds, with a gooseneck. With a fifth-wheel hitch, the capacity is 32,000 pounds, while conventional towing is 20,000 pounds. Of course, trucks also need to be able to haul, and the Sierra HD can do that too. In fact, it can handle up to 7,442 pounds in the bed — that’s more than some midsize trucks can tow!
