Fall is Car Care Month
Fall is here. Pumpkins, costumes and colored foliage are the in thing. What else is in? October is Car Care month. It's time to prepare your vehicle for winter. Check the below items on your vehicle and be prepared for changing weather and climates.
Battery
A bad battery in fall could ruin your Halloween and Thanksgiving plans. Instead of socializing in costumeland or enjoying a nice pumpkin pie, you could be standing in the cold waiting for a tow truck. Which would you prefer? If you notice your car is experiencing slow starts in the morning, has dimming lights or is starting to accumulate corrosion on the battery terminals, you should have the battery checked as soon as possible.
Tires
Changing tires on the side of the road can be a pain. If you enjoy it, then feel free to ignore this check. If you hate it though, you can help avoid experiencing that struggle by keeping an eye on tire condition. Why always check in fall? Because of the climate changes. The changes in temperature will affect air pressure in the tire. Low air pressure can cause a tire to wear out unevenly and possible pop.
Windshield Wipers
Wipers are easy to check and cheap to replace, and extremely important when driving. Without working wipers, a driver's visibility can easily be affected so we suggest you replace them when you notice they are not working properly.
Brakes
Good brakes will keep you safe. When you notice slipping when braking, squeaking or other performance irregularities, have them checked.
Heater and Defrosters
The heater is more of a comfort check. The defrosters is a visibility check. A working heater will keep you warm during cold temperatures and a working defroster will keep your windshield fog-free when driving.
Coolant levels
Coolant keeps the engine balanced. It helps cool the engine and keeps it from freezing in frigid weather. Checking it regularly throughout the year is a good practice.
