When it comes to choosing the right pickup truck to fulfill your needs, there are a lot of options on the market. Two of the more popular choices are the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the 2020 Ram 1500. This comparison highlights the differences between the two models to help you decide which option is better for you.
Performance and Powertrains
When your truck has more power, you can have a more thrilling trucking experience. Not only does the Chevrolet truck offer you more engine options to choose from, but it also provides more horsepower than the Ram truck. The Silverado 1500 has six powertrains, including the 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel engine, which reaches 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Its most powerful engine is the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management, which achieves 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 1500 only offers four powertrains with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine producing 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. As such, the powertrains for the Ram 1500 don’t quite match the ones for the Silverado 1500.
Truck Bed
Although both the Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500 offer advanced truck bed features, the Silverado 1500 pulls ahead with the functionalities of the Durabed. The Durabed offers best-in-class bed width on the long and standard bed. You can easily load your cargo with the available power-up/-down tailgate that raises and lowers automatically. With your cargo in the bed, you can then secure your items with the 12 standard tie-downs. The Ram 1500 may have the available multifunction tailgate, but it lacks some of the features of the Durabed.
Capabilities
When comparing the Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500, the Silverado 1500 manages to come out on top with its maximum towing capability. The Chevrolet truck allows you to tow up to 13,400 pounds, while the Ram truck can only tow up to 12,750 pounds. As such, you can bring more of your toys, like your trailer and boat, on trips when you drive the Silverado 1500.
