2024 Colorado zr2 Bison
The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is a rugged mid-size SUV that was added to the 2024 Chevy lineup. It already looks to lead the pack in toughness and durability as well as unique trim elements such as distinctive wheels and badging. Additionally, it boasted steel bumpers and skid plates, all supplied by the well-known aftermarket provider, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV).

The 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison retains its exclusive aftermarket additions from AEV, including broader fender flares, a full-width steel front bumper equipped to accommodate a winch, and a rear bumper featuring robust steel corner plates. Beneath the vehicle, you'll find a set of five skid plates crafted from durable Boron steel, a significant upgrade from the standard ZR2's three aluminum plates. These additional protective measures extend coverage to vital components like the fuel tank and rear differential, instilling greater confidence when tackling rugged, rocky terrain. Furthermore, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison comes standard with sturdy steel rock rails to safeguard against obstacles.

In order to accommodate the larger 35-inch tires, Chevrolet made some modifications to the ZR2 model. This involved enlarging the wheel openings on the ZR2's front fenders. Additionally, the front axle of the third-generation Colorado was shifted forward by 3.1 inches, primarily to accommodate the larger tires. Furthermore, the Bison boasts a slightly wider stance, with front and rear tracks measuring 66.3 inches, nearly an inch wider than the regular ZR2. Thanks in part to the taller tires and a slight suspension lift, the Bison stands 1.5 inches taller than its counterpart.
The Bison benefits from the same type of Multimatic spool-valve dampers as the regular ZR2, albeit they have been re-tuned to account for the added weight of the Bison, which is slightly over 300 pounds heavier. The suspension system of the Bison matches the regular ZR2 in terms of front travel (9.9 inches) and rear travel (11.6 inches), even though initial impressions during prototype testing in the Nevada desert suggested otherwise.
In comparison to the standard ZR2, the Bison offers an additional 1.5 inches of ground clearance, totaling an impressive 12.2 inches. Although the AEV bumper slightly reduces its approach angle from 38.6 to 38.2 degrees, the Bison compensates with superior breakover (26.9 versus 24.8 degrees) and departure (26.0 versus 25.2 degrees) angles.
