Know How to Jump Start Another Car with These Notes from Ed Shults Chevrolet
Whether you have a dead battery in Jamestown, NY or the opportunity arises to help a stranger with theirs, jumper cables can make all the difference in an otherwise hectic situation. Follow the straightforward instructions below to charge another car battery safely using jumper cables.
There will be two red clips and two black clips on the ends of your jumper cables. The first red end goes onto the positive terminal on the working battery; this terminal will be larger and either display a + symbol or POS for identification. Repeat this step with the second red clip on the opposite battery. The first of the black clips will now attach to the negative terminal on the non-working battery, while the last clip gets attached to the strut holding up the hood of the other car.
Once all of your cables are in place, start the working vehicle's ignition to allow it to charge the other battery. After several minutes, start the other car and drive it around town for roughly 15 minutes so the battery can fully charge.
