The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse marks a brand-new production cycle for the full-size crossover SUV, which has been around since the 2009 model year. The maiden model of the Traverse’s second generation of production highlights the main attributes of the crossover vehicle: car-like driving dynamics, remarkable fuel economy, and an abundance of interior space. The 2018 Traverse is split into five trims: LS, LT, RS, Premier, Redline, and High Country.
What’s New for the 2018 Chevy Equinox?
For the vehicle, there are two engine choices: the LCV, a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque; and the LGX, which is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 305 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Each power plant is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission: a first for the Traverse. Also making its debut on the nameplate is Intelligent Stop/Start technology to eliminate engine idling and consequently improve fuel efficiency. Whether you go with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the 2018 Traverse comes with a Traction Mode Select system so that you can adjust driving performance based on road conditions.
The top-level High Country trim is notable for its distinctive twin-clutch all-wheel drivetrain, which sends torque to the wheel with the best traction when needed to enhance the level of driving control. As a three-row vehicle, you can opt for a second row that comprises two captain’s seats or a bench-style seat; the former ensures maximum occupancy at seven people, while the latter extends it to eight. Both second and third rows can be folded down to produce a maximum cargo space of 98.5 cubic feet.
Standard comfort and convenience features include Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming, Chevrolet MyLink for integrating infotainment functions, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone-based control. Going up in trim increases the likelihood of getting additions or enhancements such as a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access, an 8-inch display screen, and adaptive cruise control.
And with the High Country trim, the third row has power-folding ability. Included in the Traverse’s sophisticated 10-airbag system is the availability of a front center side-impact airbag, which is the first time that such a safety feature has appeared on a vehicle. This airbag is designed to deploy to the driver's seat inboard side, thus providing a deeper level of protection between the driver and front passenger. Other standard safety features on the 2018 Traverse include Teen Driver mode for governing young driver habits, a rear vision camera, hill start assist, and electronic vehicle stability. If you go with the High Country trim, there would be several advanced safety features included, such as a rear park assist system, side blind zone alert, lane change alert, lane keep assist, forward collision alert, rear cross traffic alert, and forward automatic braking.
