The 2017 Chevy Malibu is a midsize car offering from the American auto manufacturer that seems to get more sporty in appearance as time goes on, perhaps harkening back to its days when it was a trim level option for the late 60s and early 70s models of the Chevy Chevelle. For 2017, the Chevy Malibu receives numerous updates, namely to its performance, exterior appearance, connectivity options, and a trim level adjustment.

Performance-wise, most of what the Malibu had in 2016 remains for this model year. Customers can still choose the efficient 1.5L four-cylinder ECOTEC engine or the more powerful 2.0L model, a turbocharged four-cylinder that's capable of producing up to 250 horsepower. New for 2017 is a brand new 9-speed automatic transmission. This new transmission, an upgrade from the previous 8-speed, lowers the final drive axle ratio slightly, from 3.08 to 2.89. 

On the exterior, the Malibu eliminates three colors: Butte Red Metallic, Crystal Red Tintcoat, and Champagne Silver Metallic while simultaneously introducing three new shades: Arctic Blue Metallic, Pepperdust Metallic, and Cajun Red Tintcoat. Smartphone integration is improved in the new Malibu as well, as it adds Android Auto as standard equipment for LS-trim level models and above.

Two new luxurious packages are added to the Malibu as well. The new Sport package features 18-inch aluminum wheels, all-season blackwall tires, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a leather-wrapped shifter knob for ultimate comfort in driving. The attractive sun and wheel package features a power sunroof, a universal home remote, premium floor mats in the front and rear, 19-inch wheels and all-season tires. The new Malibu also eliminates the old 2LT trim level to simplify the customers' options, which now consist of L, LS, LT, Hybrid and Premier.
