The Future of the Chevrolet Corvette
Right now the future of the Chevrolet Corvette is somewhat unknown. With all of the new government regulations regarding gas mileage, the future of the Chevrolet Corvette is kind of unknown. The president of General Motors, Mark Reuss, had an investor presentation last week and hinted at a few plans for the future of the Corvette and other performance vehicles. His presentation also talked about more than just the Corvette. One of the main subjects he mentions was the fact that General Motors service facilities have begun or will begin to service Tesla vehicles. General Motors service centers have the capability to work on the Tesla vehicles now that General Motors is beginning to go more into the electric scene.
Now the portion of the presentation most people wanted to hear about! The future of the Chevrolet Corvette. When talking about the future of the Corvette, Reuss talked about two separate vehicles. One being under the Corvette name and the other was not named but is said to be based on the C8 Corvette. One of the vehicles that was hinted at but not blatantly mentioned was the ZR1 Corvette. The images of the vehicle were blurred out for the media but it is presumed that is the vehicle he was referring to. A leaked document said the Corvette ZR1 will be coming out sometime in 2024. The Corvette ZR1 will supposedly have 850 hp and 825 lb-ft of torque. The engine that will be producing that enormous power is an LT7. Rumor is that this engine is currently being tested at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky.
Now for the car that was not named. For the longest time, there have been rumors of a hybrid Corvette to come out. This might finally be happening! The rumored vehicle is going to be called the Zora. Reuss said this is an incredible performance car and it will once again put the world on notice like he said when the new Z06 was introduced. it will have the basic same engine as the ZR1 but with a slight twist. That twist is the addition of twin- turbos and electric motors to create the hybrid. Now this is said to be coming around the 2025 year mark so it is still a long ways away but it is fun to think about what is coming in the future. The Zora is said to have around 1,000 hp which is unbelievable for a car coming straight out of the factory. At some point in the future we are going to see a hybrid and fully electric versions of the Chevrolet Corvette, it is just a matter of when. General Motors needs to get all of kinks out of their electric systems before they go and put an electric engine in a performance vehicle.
