Your wheels have a drum, or cylinder, connected to them that spins with them. This drum is made of metal, and it’s called the rotor. Your brake pads are attached to the brake mechanism, which is pushed up against the rotor when the brakes are engaged. The resulting friction slows down the spinning of the wheel and subsequently lowers your speed. Your rear brake pads are made for precision braking, allowing you to control your car better, but that same friction will burn through your rear brake pads just like your front brake pads.

How Rear Brake Pads Are Replaced

Then, the brake pad is removed from the brake apparatus (known as the foot) along with the clips holding it in place.
