Being the bigger mid-size SUV, the Cadillac XT5 relies on a larger 3.6-liter V6 used in its Sport edition that launches 310 horsepower. But the XT5 also provides a bit of overlap with the 2020 Cadillac XT4 by including its 2-liter turbocharged-4 with 237 horsepower as the standard for the XT5 Premium Luxury model. Supported by a 9-speed automatic transmission in all 3 Cadillac XT4 models, the Premium, Premium Luxury, and Sport, it gets 24 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. In the 2020 XT5, this 2-liter block also comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6-liter block in the XT5 Sport works with the same 9-speed automatic transmission for 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. All XT4 models, along with the XT5 Premium Luxury edition, have optional all-wheel drive, but the XT5 Sport makes it standard.
The 2020 XT4 and XT5 employ similar boisterous styling with strategically placed creasing. The most notable difference between the pair of SUVs is the thicker engine compartment on the XT5 with a narrower front grille. The XT4 does offer a surprise inside by providing 39.4 inches of front headroom and 44.1 inches of legroom over the respective 37.9 inches and 41.2 inches in the XT5. The same holds for rear head and legroom, but the XT5 takes the lead in shoulder and hip room. Cargo space is where the XT5 grabs attention with 30.2 cubic feet of volume that grows to 63 cubic feet. As a compact SUV, the Cadillac XT4 supplies 22.5 cubic feet of payload space that expands to 48.9 cubic feet with the rear seats tucked away.
With a few more cubic feet to its interior, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 would have a few more perks over the XT4, but there's also a lot in common. The 2020 XT4 starts its Premium edition with an 8-inch touchscreen, twin-zone climate control, 7-speaker audio with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and HD radio, LED headlights, 4 USB ports, and an 8-selection power driver's seat. Higher models include things like leather trim and a power liftgate. By comparison, the introductory XT5 does have an advantage with things like 8-speaker Bose audio, wireless charging, and heated front seats; it also strongly resembles the XT4 Premium with items like an 8-inch touchscreen, 4 USB ports, and twin-zone climate conditioning.
Both the XT4 and XT5 SUVs live up to their Cadillac label. Either way, there's no shortage of opulence within. It's a question of whether you need a roomy people mover or extra space for baggage and other items. The surest way to know is trying out both at our dealership today.
