Signs You Need Your Tires Repaired or Replaced
Tire service can range from a routine tire rotation to fixing a leak to replacing all four tires. So, how do you know when it’s time to visit the service center? Your wheels give you a few signs.
If you can’t remember how long it’s been since you got your tires or had your last tire rotation, take a look at the tread. When it feels smooth on one side but still has tread on another, you should get them rotated. Smooth tread on all sides means you should probably get your tires replaced.
One way you can tell just by looking at them is to find a set of bars running across your tread. These wear bars are designed to help you spot how worn your tread is. If they’re almost level with your tread, you should get new tires.
When it comes to tires with damage, you can look to your dashboard. Let’s say you’ve driven over something sharp. If any of your tires start losing air, your Tire Pressure Monitoring System warning light will turn on to let you know. If there’s visible damage or you can see the tire starting to lose its shape, you should schedule service and find out if a technician can patch the hole or needs to replace the tire.
