Tire FAQs
Q: Should I Consider Tire Repair?
A: Flat tire repair involves patching up a used tire that has a puncture. It’s fine for short-term use, but actually getting new tires is better in the long run.
Q: Can I Get One New Tire At A Time?
A: If you have a flat tire, replacement is probably the first thing on your mind. It’s best to get all 4 tires at once to ensure you have matching types and wear levels. You should at least get both front or both rear tires replaced at the same time.
Q: Do I Really Need To Get A Tire Rotation?
A: Regular rotations allow tire wear to take place at an even rate. This improves performance and provides a more comfortable ride.

How Tire Wear Affects Different Tires
Tires have grip because of their tread. Every model of tire has a different tread pattern. Of course, performance tires will have tread patterns that are very different than the tread seen on economy tires. However, even tires in the same class and produced by the same manufacturer will have different tread patterns. The different patterns affect how the car performs and how the tread wears. Also, going long periods without a wheel alignment increases tread wear no matter what tires you have.
Performance Tires vs Economy Tires
Performance tires will wear much more quickly than economy tires. This is especially true with the sort of spirited driving performance cars are capable of. Hard driving significantly increases tire wear no matter what tires you have, even if you have economy tires.
Tires With Worn Tread
Many miles of driving will eventually burn off the tread through friction from the road. You know doubt have had “bald” tires before that have been used for tens of thousands of miles. What you might not know, however, is that tires should be replaced long before they go bald.
Tread Wear Indicators
All new tires come with wear indicators. These are strips or bars of smooth rubber that go horizontally across the tread patterns. To put it simply, the tire is completely finished when these indicators appear. You should get new tires immediately. Not doing so could compromise your vehicle’s performance and even put you in danger of a blowout. It is important that you know how to check tread wear before the wear indicators appear for maximum safety.
Checking Tread
You can get a tread-depth gauge to check the state of your tire’s tread. Of course, if you’re in Bloomington, Minneapolis or Eden Prairie, MN you can bring your car in and let the professionals at Lupient Chevrolet do it for you. If you don’t have a tread gauge and you want to check the state of your tires, you can simply use a penny. Put it in the grooves between the tread patterns upside-down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tires need to be replaced.

Checking Tire Pressure
Most new vehicles on the road today have a tire pressure monitoring system. Of course, you can also check your tire pressure yourself with a small handheld gauge. All you need to do to get a reading is unscrew the little caps on your tires and seat the gauge on the stem firmly.
