What to Bring When Buying a Car
Knowing exactly what to bring when buying a car can be a little tricky, especially if you're unfamiliar with the process. Failure to prepare accordingly can make the car buying process longer and more challenging, so if you want to have the best experience possible, make sure you bring the right paperwork the first time through. Leson Chevrolet has compiled everything that drivers in the New Orleans region need to know.

What Paperwork Do I Need?ÂWhen you purchase a car at Leson Chevrolet or some other dealership, It's a good idea to come prepared with the following documents:
- Driver's License: It may seem obvious, but this is definitely one piece of information that you won't want to forget--especially if you plan on taking a test drive.
- Proof of Insurance: Most dealers won't sell to someone without proof of insurance. If you lack insurance when you come in, talk to the dealership and have them set you up before you leave.
- Trade-in Title and Registration: If you plan on trading in an old vehicle when you buy, you'll need to have your pink slip. If you have a co-signer, make sure that you have everything you need on their end. If your trade-in is still not paid off, bring in your loan information too.
- Form of Payment: If you want the purchasing process to run smoothly, you'll need to have your means of payment on hand. Most dealers accept everything from personal checks to credit card payments, but you should check with your dealer ahead of time.
If you plan to apply for financing with your dealership, you should bring proof of residency and proof of income, as in your most recent pay stubs. If you plan on applying for a specific rebate or a special offer, make sure to bring proof that you qualify.
How Long Does Buying a Car Take?If you come prepared, the car buying process could be over, start-to-finish, in as little as two hours. If you still need to negotiate a deal, apply for financing, and take care of the other particulars, you should set aside at least three to four hours for your visit.
