Megan and Jacquelyn are sisters who were born and raised in Lancaster PA. Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer just 5 days after her 30th birthday in December of 2016. Only 9 months after giving birth to her beautiful baby boy,
her diagnosis is considered pregnancy related. Jacquelyn and Megan both immediately felt a sense of community as so many around them reached out and shared their amazing stories and experiences. They were inspired to help other women by creating awareness, assisting with prevention, supporting those battling, and donating to research.
WHAT WE DO:
1. Started "Megan's Fund" at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute to financially support,
encourage and give women under the age of 40 access to mammograms, ultrasounds, genetic screening, early detection tools and other financial burdens. Many financial programs and insurance companies require women to be 40 years or older to receive financial assistance. Thrive and Grit aims to fill this gap by providing young women access to Megan’s Fund.
2. Gift "Pink Packages” which are uplifting boxes filled with gift cards, cleaning services, meal deliveries and other helpful items to assist women of all ages going through treatment (hats, scarves, tea, lotion, anti-nausea suckers, massages, groceries, port pillows, ect). To become a Featured Fighter and receive a pink package head over to our website and sign yourself or a loved one up!
3. Raise awareness in the community by sharing Megan's Story and bringing the community together through events and fundraisers.
4. Donate to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research at MD Anderson, in TX. This is a cutting edge research hospital. We donate to a program called Advanced Breast Cancer Center of Excellence whose main goal is to eradicate Metastatic Breast Cancer, assist women with
this disease, provide guidance into appropriate clinical trials through research-driven clinical medicine. WE NEED A CURE!
5. Deliver goodie bags to all patients at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, provide meals for our local young survivors and an annual meal for Doctors and nurses at the ABBCI to show our appreciation for all they do.
