The Very Beginning

After years of designing and building engines in Detroit, founder David Buick created the Buick Motor Company. Shortly thereafter, he moved the company to Flint, Michigan — just about an hour’s drive from Clinton Township — and started developing automobiles like the Buick Model B. Within 20 years, Buick had dethroned Ford and Cadillac as the number one vehicle producer in the country.

    The Mid-1900s

    Over the course of the 20th century, Buick continued to thrive and innovate. It produced legendary cars like the Buick Century, the Buick Roadmaster, the Buick Riviera, and even debuted the first-ever concept car, the Buick Y-Job convertible. Later, the brand’s distinct style and luxury would define the look of the 1950s and 1960s.

      The Late 1900s and Early 2000s

      In the 1960s, Buick decided to tackle the world of performance vehicles with the Invicta and the Gran Sport GSX, ultimately leading to the Buick Century being chosen as the Indy 500’s official pace car in 1976. Eventually, the automaker began producing high-quality SUVs like the Rainier and the Terraza.

        Today

        In the modern era, Buick’s commitment to innovation and attainable luxury is every bit as strong as it was a century ago. Following the success of its lineup of SUVs — particularly the popular Envision and Encore — the automaker decided that SUVs would be the main focus moving forward, and retired sedans like the Regal after the 2020 model year. With this move, Buick positioned itself as the go-to brand for luxurious vehicles that still cater to families and active lifestyles.
