The GMC Sierra 1500 was completely redesigned for the 2019 model year. However, GMC already has some great updates planned for the 2020 model year. Here is a snapshot of some of the new tech and powertrain features we can expect.
Enhanced ProGrade Trailering
Just like the upcoming 2020 Sierra HD, the 2020 Sierra 1500 will be available with the innovative Enhanced ProGrade Trailering system. This comes with 15 available camera views, including the segment-first transparent trailer view, which lets drivers see what’s coming up behind their trailer. This will be particularly helpful while navigating through parking lots, merging into traffic, and making tight turns.
Adaptive Cruise Control
For the first time, adaptive cruise control will be available on the GMC Sierra 1500. This feature will make highway driving easier, especially in stop-and-go traffic. The system will be able to keep pace with traffic and even come to a complete stop, if needed.
Full Year of Advanced Options
The 2020 model year will be the first full year for the available 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine and the CarbonPro Edition models with a carbon fiber bed. In addition, buyers will be able to equip the CarbonPro Edition with the turbo-diesel engine. Previously, it was available with only the 6.2-liter V8.
Transmission Options
In 2020, you will be able to get a 10-speed automatic transmission with the 5.3-liter V8 engine. This powertrain combination is available on the SLT, AT4, and Denali models. With more gears and ratios, it will deliver superior performance.
New Trailer Mirrors
GMC is introducing a new free-flow option for 2020 in the form of trailer tow mirrors.
Added Technology
Sierra 1500 trucks equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen will now offer support for SiriusXM with 360L. This service includes both satellite and streaming radio options for more choices and better control.
