This truck has some significant advantages over the Sierra 1500. To start with, its frame and chassis are larger and stronger, optimizing the Sierra 2500HD for heavy towing and payload scenarios. Second, the Sierra 2500HD offers more robust engine options. The standard powerplant is a 6.0-liter gasoline V8 producing 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. If you're looking for even better capability, consider the available 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 with 910 pound-feet of torque. With the Duramax, the Sierra 2500HD has a 14,500-pound conventional towing capacity and a 18,100-pound gooseneck towing capacity. It can also handle up to 3,434 pounds of payload.

GMC Sierra 3500HD

The Sierra 3500HD takes capability even further. The addition of an available dual-rear wheel design means it can handle the most weight of the three. The Sierra 3500HD tops out at 20,000 pounds of conventional towing and 23,300 pounds of gooseneck towing. Plus, its 7,153-pound payload capacity is more than most vehicles can even tow.
