Check Out the New Diesel Engine on the All-New 2020 Chevrolet Silverado
Chevy announced in early June that its full-size light-duty flagship's 2020 iteration would be receiving the option of a 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six turbo-diesel engine, paired with a smooth-operating GM 10L80 10-speed auto transmission. The engine will be joining six other powertrains as the first-ever turbocharged diesel I6 offered in the Chevy Silverado LD lineup. This will mean a ton of benefits for Marlton, NJ area haulers, too.
For one, variable geometry turbocharging will help deliver class-leading torque and horsepower: 460 pound-feet and 277 horses respectively. It'll mean the ability to efficiently shoulder nearly any weight a Philadelphia duty roster can send your way. Secondly, the engine will deliver as much as 95 percent of its peak torque at an ultra-low 1,250 rpm, making the most of acceleration and turning and pulling power.
Thirdly, a lightweight aluminum block and cylinder head will help reduce overall mass, while Active Thermal Management can improve the engine's use of energy, especially during cold-weather warm-up (think frigid Cherry Hill NJ parking lots). In fact, ceramic glow plugs will shorten heat-up times as well as assist it to cold-start more quickly. The long story, short: the block heater won't be needed until temperatures plummet to as low as -22 degrees Fahrenheit.
There'll be plenty of other advantages, too. To optimize both performance and efficiency across the work orders of the day in Mount Laurel, 2020 Chevy Silverado will feature low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation, improving combustion. Stop/start technology will help you conserve fuel while driving in cities like Camden, while exhaust braking will use the engine compression to help reduce speed where needed. That means less of a need to brake in Tow Haul mode, helping your hauling job go off without a hitch.
Best of all, the new Duramax I6 will be a comparable value to a 6.2-liter V8, making it, to quote Nicola Menarini, Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution Director at Chevrolet, a "no-compromise choice" for those in need of the right balance of diesel capability and driving range in a light-duty pickup.
