Trim Levels

The 2020 Chevy Equinox comes in four trim levels: the base L, the entry-level LS, the mid-range LT, and the high-end Premier trims. For most, the LS will be the entry-level trim, as the L is a special order designed for fleet vehicles.

The Equinox is available in a wide range of colors, including the metallic options for Pacific Blue, Nightfall Gray, Satin Steel, Silver Ice, Chocolate, Mosaic Black, Midnight Blue, and Cayenne Orange. There are also tint coats in Cajun Red and Iridescent Pearl, but many drivers opt for the classic Summit White.

    Engine

    There are two engine options for the Equinox. The base is a 1.5-liter turbo-four that gives you 170 horsepower with 203 pound-feet of torque. Stepping it up from there you can choose a 2-liter turbo engine that delivers 252 horses and 260 pound-feet of torque. The base engine gets a six-speed automatic and the 2-liter engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic.

      Performance

      The engine lineup provides plenty of performance under the hood. The Equinox comes in a standard front-wheel drive, but the LS, LT, and Premier can all opt for all-wheel drive. The base 1.5-liter engine is rated for 1,500 pounds of maximum towing capacity, while the 2-liter engine is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds. Maximum payload ranges from 1,114 to 1,240 pounds, depending on how your crossover is equipped.

        Interior

        The Equinox features a cabin that's built for comfort. Its suspension does a great job of absorbing bumps and jars, and the supportive seats keep you well-supported as you drive. The Equinox’s cabin is very roomy in terms of headroom and legroom alike making it easy to enter and exit the vehicle as well. Overall there are 103.2 cubic feet of passenger space inside. The infotainment system features an easy-to-reach and intuitive 7-inch touch screen making it easy to find the controls you want.

          Finally, the new Equinox is packed with active and intelligent safety features. These include adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts. There are rear parking sensors, and a complete 360-degree surround-view parking camera system. Frontal crash warning and mitigation and lane departure warning and lane-keeping round out the package. The NHTSA gave the new Equinox an overall 5-star safety rating, with five stars from front and side crash protection.
