The 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe is a rugged and reliable full-size SUV with three rows of seats. It offers all-around practicality and comfort, whether you want to transport up to nine people or carry or tow large loads.

Trim Levels

Three trim levels are available. The LS offers 18-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and ignition, a trailer hitch platform and receiver, roof rails, side steps, rear parking sensors, automatic wipers, and heated mirrors. Upgrade to the LT and a power liftgate is added. The top-of-the-range Premier provides adaptive dampers, xenon headlamps, 20-inch wheels, a hands-free tailgate opener, and power-folding mirrors.

    Engine

    The standard power unit for the Tahoe is a very capable 5.3-liter V-8 producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. If you go for the RST or Premier Plus options, an even more powerful 6.2-liter V-8 is available, producing a massive 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and linked to a highly efficient 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard across the range, but all-wheel drive is available.

      Performance

      Despite its size, when fitted with the 6.2-liter engine, the Tahoe can race from 0-60 mph in less than six seconds. The Tahoe can tow up to a mighty 8,400 pounds. If you expect to do a significant amount of driving on rough surfaces, the Z71 off-road package adds all-terrain tires, off-road suspension, and various electronic aids to make the LT version into a useful all-terrain vehicle. The Tahoe achieves a very respectable 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with the 5.3-liter engine.

        The Tahoe seats eight as standard, although an optional 40/20/40 split middle-row seat can increase capacity to nine for the LS version. With all three rows of seats in place, it can still accommodate a useful 15.3 cubic feet of luggage, which can rise to an ample 94.7 cubic feet with seats folded.

        All Tahoes are well-equipped. The LS offers triple-zone climate control, split folding second- and third-row seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, plus OnStar communication, and an 8-inch touch screen. There is a six-speaker sound system, Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a clever teen-driver monitoring system. The LT adds a power-adjustable passenger seat, plus memory functions for the driver's seat. It provides leather upholstery and a nine-speaker audio system. Upgrade to the luxurious Premier edition and you will get more power-adjustment and seat-heating, plus blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, front parking sensors, and 10-speaker surround sound. The Premier trim also includes comfortable second-row bucket seats, reducing seating capacity to seven, plus a navigation system.

          Safety

          Seven air bags, ABS, and traction control are standard for the Tahoe. A package providing other active safety equipment is optional for the LS and standard on other models. This incorporates active lane control, power-adjustable pedals, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking. Premier editions add adaptive cruise control. Overall, the Tahoe has a reassuringly solid feel and has been given a four-star rating by the NHTSA.
