Davidson Automotive Group's GM locations, in Rome and Watertown, are the proud recipients of recognition by the General Motor's 2014 Green Dealer Program through our efforts to implement eco-friendly initiatives. Recognition is given to dealerships that have a proven track record in areas such as energy reduction and renewable energy use. Check out some of the efforts we have taken:
- 240 Solar Panels on the roofs of the Davidson Super Center in Watertown
- Waste Oil Furnaces that recycle waste oil into heating for the Collision Repair Center in Watertown
- Davidson Chevrolet offers the eco-conscious Chevy Volt. We even use them for our courtesy shuttle for our customers and our Watertown locations features a charging station.
- 3,000 Ground Solar Panels were installed at our Watertown location, powering all of our buildings and lowering our environmental footprint.
- At our Rome location, 2,600 solar panels were installed, supplying enough energy to power the equivalent of 75 homes.
Solar Power at Davidson of Rome
We are slashing energy use with cutting edge technology and innovative thinking. Completed in 2014, we installed 2,600 solar panels on our lot. The panels we installed supply enough energy to power the equivalent of 75 average American homes and will be used to power the dealership, collision center, and a car wash. We have hopes that the solar farm will serve as a great educational tool for younger generations to come and serve as example to the Rome community to search for cleaner ways to power businesses in the community. It's the little things that count too. Thats why we use LED & motion sensor lighting at all our locations
Chevy Volt Courtesy Shuttle & Charging Station
We are proud to offer the power of choice with the fuel efficient, eco-conscious Chevy Volt to our customers and we even use one for our Davidson Courtesy Shuttle. With the extended range Volt, you don't have to choose between gas or electric. You have the option of both. The advanced lithium-ion battery allows you to drive gas-free for an EPA estimated 38 miles. In fact, Volt Drivers who charge their car regularly are averaging 900 miles, or about a month, between fill-ups. That's over $1,250 in fuel savings every year. Our Rome location also features a charging station for electric vehicles.
Recycling and Reusing at our Collision Center in Rome
Our collision center is helping lower our environmental footprint by using would be waste oil for heating. Our collision center features waste oil furnaces that save 500,000 cu ft. of natural gas per building each year. The furnaces are designed to generate heat from waste motor oils and petroleum based fluids recycled right at our Rome location. That saves 58,500 lbs of CO2 emissions annually. The collision center also features high tech energy efficient radiant flooring, powered by our waste oil furnaces. This is all in addition to our recycling program, and energy star rated appliances.
All of our locations also feature EnergyStar certified appliances, energy efficient HVAC systems, and energy efficient interior and exterior lighting to help reduce our power usage.
Solar Panels at Davidson of Watertown
At our location in Watertown, we have made a great effort to improve our energy efficiency and lower our carbon footprint. We began our journey by first installing 240 solar panels on the roofs of our Watertown showroom and service center to help maximize energy efficiency. These panels produce 50,000 kilowatt hours annually, which is the equivalent to what is needed to power approximately five average American homes, and is less than the kilowatt hours consumed by the entire dealership annually. With this initial installation we save 76,000 lbs. of CO2 emissions annually per building. Solar energy produces, on average, about 20 to 30 times less CO2 and greenhouse gases than energy from coal. In order to continue with our energy efficient initiatives, we then completed the installation of an additional 204 kilowatt solar energy system (over 3,000 panels) in January, 2014. The power is enough to power every building on our Watertown campus. The panels will reduce carbon emissions by about 2.5 millions pounds per year.
