      What If My Lease Runs Out While Dealerships Are Closed?

      Our dealership sales department is currently closed in compliance with the Governor's orders to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. If your lease term is close to ending and are not able to return your vehicle ten days after it's termination, GM Financial will automatically extend your lease for one month.         Are There Fees for Breaking a Lease?

        Auto dealers only make money off of a lease if you make all of your payments through the end of your lease agreement. That is why leasing agreements have penalties for breaking a lease.

        If you default on a lease, you may have to do one or more of these things:
        • Pay a fee for terminating the lease early 
        • Pay all leftover payments
        • Pay additional costs to prepare the car for resale
        • Pay the "negative equity" on the car, which is the difference between the lease amount and the current value of the car
        Before you do anything, though, look through your leasing agreement to find out which of these penalties apply.

          Am I Able to Lease a Car with Bad Credit?

          Leasing a car is cheaper than buying one, so leasing could be your best choice if you're on a budget. Even if you don't have an excellent credit score, you may still need a new car.  
          Fortunately, there are ways to lease a vehicle with bad credit, and there are steps along the way that can actually help with improving your credit score. Here's a short guide to car leases for people with bad credit.
          First of all, if you can, it is a good idea to tune up your credit score before applying for a lease. Your credit score is the most important thing that car dealers look at when you apply for a lease, so do what you can to improve yours before trying to buy a car.
          You might also want to save up some money for a down payment, because with a larger down payment on the lease you could qualify for a lowered interest rate.

            What To Do When You Return a Lease

            If you are planning to trade in your car and start a new lease, you will need to check your vehicle for any damage, and set up an on-site inspection. You should take a close look at the interior and exterior of your car (including tires and wheels), and ensure the car is in normal working order. During your review and our inspection, we'll all be looking for normal wear and tear, which you're not responsible for, and excessive wear, which will require an additional fee. Also note that you may have to pay a fee for any remaining payments on your lease if you trade in your car before the lease term is over, and you may have excess mileage charges and additional state fees.
